Travel & Transportation

From the Airport (PHL)

Public Transit: SEPTA Regional Rail

Philadelphia airport is connected to University City by the Airport line which runs every 30 minutes (5am-12:30am) from each terminal. From the airport, locations in University City can be reached by taking the train either to the University City stop, or to 30th street station depending on the location you will be staying at. If you choose to stay in Center City or other locations in the city, the train will also stop at Suburban Station at 15th street and Jefferson Station at 11th street.

Tickets for the train can be paid in cash or by credit card at a kiosk next to the train for $6.75.

More info: SEPTA Regional Rail

Taxi

Taxis are readily available from Zone 5 at the PHL airport. Pricing is a flat-rate charge of $28.50 to anywhere within Center Philadelphia, including University city.

Ride Share Apps: Lyft and Uber

Rideshare apps are legal in Phialdelphia and make transit to and from the airport very convenient. Both Lyft and Uber rides can be picked up at the Arrivals section of the airport. Average costs for Lyft and Uber will vary with time but you can expect to pay $20-25 for an individual ride, and between $10-20 for Uber Pool and Lyft Line.

Rental Car Services

Rental cars can be accessed at the airport through the Ground Transportation information desks near Baggage Claims. Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Hertz, and National all have service at the airport and can be conveniently reached. Although cars can be rented at your convenience, Philadelphia is rather compact, making the use of a car not explicitly necessary. Renting a car may be considerably more inconvenient due to the costs and availability of parking.

It is possible that you may find a cheaper or more convenient flight by traveling through New York City, Washington DC, or Baltimore, MD then those arriving directly in PHL.

City of Philadelphia

Things to do

Founded in 1682, Philadelphia is a city rich in history, innovation, and culture. The city holds a particular fame for its role in the American Revolution, being the meeting area and site for the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776 as well as the Constitution in 1787. Prior to Washington, DC, Philadelphia served as the nations capital, eventually evolving from a primarily industrial city into an important economic, medical, and educational epicenter. Take your spare time from the convention to get out, see and experience the City of Brotherly Love!
